How It Works
Our process is designed to be calm, collaborative and centred around your animal's comfort.
Veterinary referral
Your journey begins with your primary veterinary surgeon. With your consent, we obtain and review relevant clinical history, examination findings, medications, diagnostic tests, imaging and previous treatment. This helps us determine whether acupuncture is appropriate and how it can complement existing care.
Initial video consultation — 30 minutes
We discuss your animal's history, your main concerns and treatment goals, how acupuncture may help, realistic expectations and how to prepare for the first home visit.
Prepare a calm treatment space
Choose a quiet, comfortable area with minimal distractions. A favourite bed or blanket, familiar items and suitable treats can help your animal feel secure. We bring a comfortable, easy-to-clean treatment mat.
First home treatment — usually 30–45 minutes
There is no rush to begin needling. Your animal is given time to become comfortable. The visit may include a gentle physical assessment, massage-based palpation, gentle stretching and movement assessment, identification of painful or tense areas, and acupuncture tailored to the individual patient.
Build trust gradually
Needles are introduced gently and gradually. Nervous or cautious animals may receive only a small number initially. If an animal does not tolerate needles, acupressure massage may be considered instead.
Ongoing treatment
Acupuncture has a cumulative effect. Most animals initially benefit from approximately 4–6 weekly sessions. Once improvement has stabilised, treatment may be spaced further apart—often approximately every 2–8 weeks—depending on the condition and individual response.
Communication with your veterinary team
Following the initial consultation and first treatment, you and your referring veterinary surgeon receive a written report outlining our assessment, treatment and proposed plan. A further progress report is provided when your animal moves into the maintenance phase.
Ready to begin?
Your first step is an initial video consultation to discuss your animal's needs and whether acupuncture may be suitable.
